Random notes.
Gene Sperling, who is Director of the National Economic Council, was also technical advisor for West Wing.

He attended the Wharton School of Business, U. of Penn.

Andy Stern, former head of the 2.2 million member large Service Employees International Union, also attended the Wharton School of Business, U. of Penn. Andy visited the Obama whitehouse 53 times since inauguration.

Erskine Bowles was appointed, in 2010, as co-chair of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform (with Alan K. Simpson). Previously, Bowles had been Bill Clinton’s White House Chief of Staff. He also sits on the board of directors for General Motors, and Morgan Stanley.
Oh, he also sits on the board for Facebook, Inc.

What does the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform do? According to the boiler plate, “policies to improve the fiscal situation in the medium term and to achieve fiscal sustainability over the long run.” The Commission is simply a creation of the President. It was voted against originally by Republicans, but then instituted by Executive Order.

Among those appointmented (by Obama) to the Commission are:
Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin)….now Mitt’s running mate. Fan of Ayn Rand.
Bruce Reed…son of Idaho Senator Mary Lou Reed, and Rhodes Scholar, graduate of Princeton, and former Al Gore speechwriter.
Dave Cote, CEO of Honeywell….and sits on the board of J.P.Morgan Chase. Is also a renowned union buster.
Alice Rivlin….daughter of astromer, grad of Bryn Mawr…and works with the Brookings Institute. The Brookings think tank is big on the 21st Century Defense Initiative. Behind which is its primary author P.W. Singer.
Dick Durbin, (D-Illinois). I think Durbin must sit on more boards than anyone ever in the US government.

Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas). Jeb has voted consistently against pro-choice legislation, stem cell research, same-sex marriage and hate crimes legislation, and consistently supported free trade policies, the PATRIOT Act, and a Constitutional amendment against flag burning. He graduated from Rick Perry’s Alma Mater, Texas A&M… Go Aggies.

Now…the first Obama National Security Advisor was James Jones, who also sits on the Board of Directors for Boeing. Followed by Tom Donilon, an architect of the Bosnian peace agreement (sic) and leader for the idea of further NATO expansion.

These are appointments. Not elected, appointed.

Donilan is married to Joe Biden’s Chief of Staff.

Christine Amanpour is married to Jamie Rubin. Donilon succeeded Rubin as Secretary of State for Public Affairs.

(Speaking of NATO). What you ask, does the Secretary of State for Public Affairs do, exactly? Well, the first head of the Bureau was Archibald MacLeish, appointed by FDR. The Bureau “carries out the Secretary of State’s mandate to help Americans understand the importance of foreign affairs”

Specifically :
Strategic and tactical planning to advance the Administration’s priority foreign policy goals;
Conducting press briefings for domestic and foreign press corps;
Pursuing media outreach, enabling Americans everywhere to hear directly from key Department officials through local, regional and national media interviews;
Managing the State Department’s websites at www.state.gov and www.future.state.gov and developing web pages with up-to-date information about U.S. foreign policy;
Answering questions from the public about current foreign policy issues by phone, email, or letter;
Arranging town meetings and scheduling speakers to visit communities to discuss U.S. foreign policy and why it is important to all Americans;
Producing and coordinating audio-visual products and services in the U.S. and abroad for the public, the press, the Secretary of State, and Department bureaus and offices;
Preparing historical studies on U.S. diplomacy and foreign affairs matters.

Following Donilon as Deputy National Security Advisor is Denis McDonough, former aide for the House International Relations Committee, and Senior at the Center for American Progress. Other seniors at the Center include Lawrence Korb, the Assistent Secretary of Defense under Reagan, and ….Gene Sperling.

This is the liberal alternative (sic) to the Heritage Foundation and American Enterprise Institute.

Dee Dee Myers is a technical consultant on The West Wing. She is married to Vanity Fair editor Todd Purdum. Among her writing credits include political commentary for O, The Oprah Magazine, and Vanity Fair.
